Gwenan has strategic oversight of all aspects of the governance of the University including Council, Senate, Court, Executive Board and all Council Sub-Committees. In addition, she leads the Executive Board Office, the provision of legal services, contracts and information compliance, safeguarding and Prevent, student conduct and complaints, Honorary Degrees, research governance, ethics, ordinances, regulations and policies.
Sera Whitley

Sera provides administrative support across the Governance Services department. She supports a range of processes across many areas of the Service, including legal services and contracts, research governance, integrity and ethics, policy management and arranging training for the Governance Services team. In addition, she supports the Governance & Secretariat Officer with processes including the Honorary Appointment process and flying the University flag in memoriam, as well as ensuring that the Governance Services web pages are fully updated and available bilingually.

Lynette Williams
Legal and Compliance Assistant

Lynette provides support for Governance Services with all aspects of compliance activities. In particular, Lynette manages the University’s response to information legislation requests (including Freedom of Information (FOI), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and data protection requests (SAR)) to ensure they are dealt with efficiently and effectively in line with legislation and best practice guidelines. As part of this role, she also assists the Legal and Compliance Manager with Data Protection breaches.
Lynette oversees the management and retention of appropriate business records on a daily basis, liaising with University staff to produce appropriate retention policies. She provides advice and guidance to all members of staff on all aspects of records management, from creation through to disposal, ensuring core records management sensibilities are incorporated into day-to-day activity whilst preserving the corporate memory and heritage of the University.
Lynette also manages the operation of the Record Centre service for core University records so that staff can find the information they need quickly and easily, and the department knows what information it has and where it is, only keeps the information it needs, and stores its information efficiently and securely.
Lynette works part-time for the Office and is available on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Wednesday mornings. She is also Senior Archivist of the University.

Research Governance and Ethics
Colin Ridyard
Senior Research Governance and Policy Officer

Colin is the University lead on modernising and updating research governance and ethical processes, providing advice and developing guidance for Colleges on ethics, research ethics, research governance and integrity issues. Managing the University’s research relevant licences in relation to the Human Tissue Act and the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act, Colin is also responsible for managing the University’s corporate policy framework and ensuring all policies meet the needs of the strategic aims and objectives of the University and are all aligned with the University’s Strategic Plan. Colin is also responsible for managing the University’s academic regulations, codes of practice, and procedures. Colin is Secretary to the Senate Regulations and Special Cases Committee.
